Doctoral Dissertation
My dissertation examines the political economy of industrial decarbonization. It investigates how states, firms, and international markets interact to shape the transition of carbon-intensive industries in an era of climate change and geopolitical competition. As decarbonization increasingly becomes a source of international competitiveness, governments face the challenge of reducing emissions while sustaining industrial growth and export performance. Through three interconnected papers, I examine how domestic institutions, firm capabilities, and external decarbonization pressures interact and shape industrial transformation across sectors and countries. Drawing on comparative case studies, process tracing, expert interviews, and mixed-methods analysis, the dissertation contributes to the political economy of climate policy by explaining when and how governments can successfully facilitate industrial decarbonization in export-oriented economies. My first dissertation chapter is published on ERSS here.
